MyCareer Center (formerly “The Barrington Career Center”) is a nonprofit career center offering practical, tactical support for professionals actively job searching. We focus on structured help, not career counseling.
No. Our coaching focuses on the job search itself: your resume, LinkedIn, interview prep, and search strategy.

We’re not the right fit if you’re still figuring out what field you want to be in. If you know you need to find a job and want real support doing it, we’re for you.
MyCareer Place is based at 1000 Hart Road, Suite 300, Barrington, IL 60010. A small number of workshops are offered in person at that location. Over 90 percent of our workshops are held online.
Job search coaching is one-on-one and available up to twice per month. Coaches and members arrange how they meet directly. Almost all coaching is online, though in-person meetings can be arranged between coach and member.

No. We serve early career professionals, those returning to work after time away, career changers, and mid- to late-career professionals. What matters is that you’re actively job searching and want structured support.
Yes. Many of our members come to us right after a layoff. We help you build structure and momentum quickly.
Yes. We work with return-to-work professionals and understand the specific challenges of re- entering the market.
Yes. We work with professionals at all stages of transition, including those thoughtfully planning their next move while still in their current role.

Membership for the first 12 months is a modest fee of $200, and annual renewal fee is $100, thanks to our generous private donors and local community grants.

Yes. Scholarships are available for members who need them. Cost should never be a barrier.

We celebrate it. We’ll ask you to complete a short landing form, and with your permission, we will share your story with current members who are still in their search.

Coaching is one-on-one with a volunteer coach, available up to twice per month. You bring specific job search questions or challenges and your coach works with you on those. It is focused, not open-ended.
A small peer group that meets regularly for accountability, problem-solving, and mutual support during your search. Facilitated by a volunteer.
Yes. The CliftonStrengths Top 5 assessment is administered through Gallup and requires a one-time purchase of $24.99. The assessment is required before attending the CliftonStrengths workshop.
ELA — the Executive Leadership Alliance — is a senior-level executive peer network for C- suite and senior-level professionals, limited to 20 active members. Participation is by invitation only and requires active MyCareer Place membership. See the ELA page for full details on eligibility and the invitation process.
